Historically, Just Press Record has had two options for the storage of recordings:
- On-device
- iCloud Drive
‘On-device’ uses a hidden container to store recordings. This data is only available inside Just Press Record which means recordings are not visible in the Files app. If you want to move or copy recordings out of ‘on-device’ storage, you have to share each recording individualy from inside Just Press Record.
Since v37, there are now three options:
- On My iPhone
- iCloud Drive
- Legacy (In-App Only)
The original, ‘on-device’ storage from previous versions has been renamed to Legacy (In-App Only). We do not recommend using this option and we may remove it in a future release (although we have no immediate plans to do so).
The new ‘On My iPhone’ storage location benefits from Files app integration iTunes File Sharing compatibility. Because your recordings can be seen in the Files app, it’s now easy to use them in other apps or move them from to iCloud Drive if you wish.
I’ve been using on-device storage. Are my recordings automatically moved to the new On My iPhone location?
No. We decided not to automatically migrate all recordings as it may not be the correct choice for all users. But we have provided a tool that makes it very easy. In Just Press Record’s settings, switch the Storage Location from Legacy (In-App Only) to On My iPhone. A new option “Move Legacy Recordings” will appear.
Tap this and follow the on-screen instructions. Once complete, your recordings should be visible in the Files app and the Move Legacy Recordings options will disappear.
